Intellectual Property Specialist

Summary
The objectives of the position are to support the Merchandising and Product Development teams in IP related topics.
What you'll do
The holder of the position is mainly responsible for the following areas in coordination with his / her superior:
- Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) review
- Analyse products to identify any existing 3rd party registered and unregistered designs or rights, registered and unregistered trademarks and prior art
- Conduct registered design search, patent search, trademark search, prior art search, freedom-to-operate search
- Utilise online trademark, design and patent search facilities at national patent and trademark offices and/or commercial IP search databases for searching
- Conduct infringement analysis and provide infringement/non-infringement clearance advice
- Assist and advise the business team during the product design and development process
- Assist internal and external legal counsels on IP legal disputes, and conduct enquires and analysis
- Perform other IP related administrative duties, such as maintaining internal IP records and other tasks as assigned by the manager
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, ideally mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering; Bachelor’s degree or above in other science subjects with industrial experiences in engineering will also be considered
- At least 2 years of IP clearance experience in a law firm or patent and trademark agency in the IP area, or 2 years of inhouse IP clearance experience in multinational corporations in the consumer goods industry
- High sensitivity to IP features, proprietary or not, and IP risks
- Good technical analytical skills, and attention to detail
- Ability to develop practical and commercial solutions to meet commercial objectives
- Strong communication, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong sense of responsibility
- Proactive approach to tasks and responsibility
- Ability to work independently, as well as to work within a cooperative team environment
- Mature, confident, and self-motivated
- Willingness to acquire new skills and grow with the organization
- Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese to liaise with Chinese speaking only stakeholders
