Lidl and Kaufland Asia is hiring a Technical Manager to join our Quality Assurance Food Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

•    Lead, develop and support the food QA team to ensure products are safe, legal and of the quality standard required

•    Own the food QA process, ensure that the requirements are followed, and identify areas for improvement 

•    Advise and support the business in making informed decisions relating to food QA. 

•    Maintain the food safety risk assessment profile and ensure it is updated and changes communicated and actioned.

What you'll do

•    Lead the food quality assurance team to ensure that tasks are completed in line with requirements.

•    Be the main point of contact for all food QA/technical matters

•    Develop and implement the food QA strategy in line with the department objectives and overall strategy

•    Provide guidance and support to the business on food related QA matters

•    Develop procedures and processes to ensure products handled by Lidl Asia are safe, legal and compliant

•    Work with stakeholders and service providers to build relationships for long term future requirements of the business

•    Support and develop the QA team to achieve high performance and help them realise their potential

•    Work with suppliers to understand QA/technical processes in place to advise on areas of improvement to maintain product safety, quality and legality.

•    Liaise with the direct customer to understand requirements and ensure compliance. Identifying areas for improvement or further development.

•    Own the food safety and quality management processes and identify areas for improvement. Develop and maintain the business risk assessment and ensure it is kept up to date.

•    Take an active interest in global food safety risks and developments and regulatory changes which have an impact on current and future product ranges.

•    Advise on product testing protocols aimed to verify legal compliance of the developed items in the selling markets (EU, US). 

•    Guide the development of product management plans based on agreed technical specifications and organize/coordinate pre-shipment inspections. 

•    Contribute to the internal quality assessment programme on products and packaging when needed;

•    Promote and drive continuos quality improvement by proactively contributing to the continuous improvement of the internal QMS.

What you'll need

•    Highly organised, with a strong ability to maintain deadlines and support others where needed. Work to tight timescales with minimal direction.

•    Able to work in situations where outcomes are not always clear

•    Proven leadership skills – leading and directing a team of food professionals

•    Detail oriented, independent and with the ability to communicate in a forceful but friendly manner. 

•    PC knowledge (e.g. Microsoft Office) is essential. 

•    Degree holder in related discipline (e.g. Food Science, Quality Management, Chemistry)

•    Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Food Quality Assurance or manufacturing 

It would be ideal if you have:

•    Previous exposure with EU and US markets is an advantage;

•    Technical expertise in food production 

•    A deep understanding of Quality Management Systems (e.g. ISO 9001). Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, BRC and IFS 

•    A commercial mindset 

•    Self motivated and self organised attitude. Be responsible, hardworking and a natural team leader.

•    A can-do attitude and a high degree of work ethics and integrity

•    Proficiency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), both spoken and written. 

•    PC knowledge (e.g. Microsoft Office) is essential

•    Experience in working with remote operations and suppliers. Ability to travel to visit operational sites
